Governor Has Signed Legal Fee Equality Bill S-2018 !!!
Law applies to new leases on
or after Feb. 1, 2014.
Starting February 1, if a tenant signs a new lease that has a legal fee clause for landlords then tenants have the same right to collect lawyer's fee if they succeed in court.
This is the most important advance in the rights of New Jersey tenants in a very long time.
(There is a long story behind this that I will tell when I am old and gray -- okay, older and grayer. Wait around.)
